Join us for our Asia Pacific Education Virtual Meeting with esteemed speakers from Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United States. Our expert speakers will be discussing various topics around ROP Screening, Pediatric Eye imaging and the Advantage of Telemedicine, especially during the current COVID situation. Additional topics of discussion will include, Universal Newborn Eye Screening and ROP Screening in Japan.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this seminar the participants will be able to:
• Discuss the advantages of Telemedicine
• Describe the benefits of Universal Newborn Eye Screening
• List the advantages of Wide-field Digital Eye Imaging (WFDI) to that of Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscopy (BIO)
• Define that advantage of a ROP Screening Program

Dr. Donny W Suh
Dr. Donny W Suh
M.D., FAAP, MBA, FACS
Donny W. Suh, M.D., FAAP, MBA, FACS works at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). He is Professor and Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Eye Mobile Program in the Department of Ophthalmology, UCI. He completed his pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship at The Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and his ophthalmology residency at The Eye Institute, Medical College of Wisconsin. He received his medical doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and he also received his Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Suh is an active volunteer faculty of ORBIS Global Health Programs since 2000, and has traveled to South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa to provide medical and surgical services to the underserved as well as to teach the local ophthalmologists. In December 2021, he became an Orbis’ Medical Advisory Committee member.
He is Chief Editor for Medscape Online Reference since March 2016 and has published over 100 articles in major journals and chapters in major textbooks.
He is actively involved with teaching medical students and residents in pediatrics and ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). He is currently involved in multiple Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved research projects and actively working with UCI and Creighton medical students, residents in Pediatrics and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Suh was a Chairman of the Annual Meeting Program Committee in pediatric ophthalmology for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the President of Polk County Medical Society in Iowa in 2014 representing over 1,200 physicians in Central Iowa advocating for the patients and medical professionals. He was also Annual Meeting Program Committee Chair for The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) in his subspecialty.
Previously, he worked at the Children’s Hospital of Omaha as the Chief of Ophthalmology Service and Interim Surgeon-in-Chief. He was John and Irene Graether Endowed Chair and Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He was also the Director of Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr. Suh is actively involved with research with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigation Group (PEDIG), which has been sponsored by the National Eye Institute (NIH) since 2000. He has numerous inventions with patents for surgical equipment and medical devices. He is an Executive Committee member and a Chair-Elect for Section on Ophthalmology (SOOp) of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). He helps to establish guidelines and to advocate for pediatricians for pediatric eye care. He is also the Chairman for Membership Committee for American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Ophthalmology Section, and he has been voted “Best Doctor in America” and “America’s Top Ophthalmologist” since 2003 to present. He has been inducted to American Ophthalmological Society (AOS), which was founded in 1864, and have been voted “Inventor of the Year” in 2019 at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Dr. So Young Kim Graduated from Sooncheonhyang University Medical School and Graduate School. She completed her Fellowship at Seoul National University Hospital. 2003-04, working in Pediatric Ophthalmology at Sooncheonhyang University Cheonan Hospital 2005 until present day.
Dr Kim also complete overseas training at Hamamatsu Univ. Hospital, Japan in 2006, and Omaha Children’s Hospital & UNMC (University of Nebraska Medical Center) where she undertook a Clinical fellowship, under the guidance of Dr Donny Suh. -

Dr. Shuan Dai
Dr. Shuan Dai is the director of Ophthalmology, Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service and Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. He is the current president of the Royal Australia & New Zealand Strabismus Society. Shuan is specialized in Paediatric Ophthalmology & Adult Strabismus and is well known for his expertise in Paediatric neurophthalmology, Paediatric low vision and ROP telemedicine. Shuan is actively involved in government health policy development in the area of paediatric eye care among various health professionals, as well as in clinical education and research.

Dr. Shunji Kusaka
Dr. Shunji Kusaka
After graduating from Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, Dr Kusaka finished his residency program at Department of Ophthalmology, Osaka University. After finishing a vitreoretinal fellowship at Osaka National Hospital, he became an assistant professor at Ehime University, then joined a research fellowship program at University of Michigan to study the physiology of retinal glial cells under supervision of Donald G. Puro, MD., Ph.D. After coming back to Osaka University as an assistant professor, besides busy clinical work as a vitreoretinal surgeon, he continued basic research on RPE cell physiology, and has published so far several papers in prestigious basic science journals such as The Journal of Physiology, Glia, and IOVS. In addition, he has published over 130 clinical study papers. He has become a professor and chair at Department of Ophthalmology, Kindai University Faculty of Medicine since 2018. Currently, his main interests are surgical treatment of various vitreoretinal disorders, including pediatric diseases, and basic research of pharmacological treatment of ocular neovascular diseases.
